My child has never played soccer, is this the right program for players new to the sport?
Absolutely, the Eastside FC recreation program is perfect for introducing your son or daughter to soccer. The program is focused on fun and basic skill development. Thousands of young players in our community got their start in Eastside’s recreation program.
Which age group is my son or daughter eligible to play in?
The "U" in each age group stands for under. So, a U7 division is for players who are under 7 years old. In the recreation division the cutoff date is August 1st of each year. Meaning, if your son or daughter is under 7 years old on August 1st, they would be eligible to play in the U7 division in the fall, winter and the spring season in the following year. The only exception to this rule is the U14 team; any player currently in the 8th grade or lower is eligible for the U14 division.
How do I register for the program?
Simply log in to your Eastside FC account by clicking on the "Log In" at the top of this page. If you do not have a Eastside FC account, go ahead and create one by following the prompts after clicking the "Register" button. Please remember your username and password as you will need it to access your account in the future.
What equipment will my child need?
Uniforms consist of a reversible jersey, black shorts, black socks, shin guards and cleats are recommended. Jerseys are available for purchase at Grosse Pointe Geek for $30.
How are teams formed?
Players are organized by age group and grade. When possible, children who go to school together will be placed on the same team. We also strive to maintain the same boy to girl ratio across teams.
Can I request to be placed on a team with a specific player?
We will attempt to honor teammate requests, as long as we’re able to maintain a good competitive balance across teams, but they are not guaranteed. Teammate requests are less likely to be honored if the player is signs up late in the registration process. We cannot honor coach requests.
Where are games played?
Games are played at local municipal fields in the Grosse Pointe area. Maps showing the specific location of our fields can be found on our Recreation Fields page. Game locations are included in the game schedule that is released prior to the start of the season.
When will game schedules be available?
Schedules for games will typically be available on your team page 7-10 days prior to the start of the season. Games are typically played on Saturday and/or Sunday.
When will the team practice?
Practice schedules and locations are determined by the head coach of each team. Typically, teams will begin practicing one week prior to the start of the season. Teams do not practice during the winter sessions.
What resources are available for volunteer coaches?
Eastside FC Coaching Resources web page includes practice plans and tips on how to create a fun and enjoyable experience the players and parents. We have professional coaching staff that are also available to help answer any questions the volunteer coaches may have. All coaches, board members and volunteers also received concussion awareness training and go through a background check process prior to participating in any club related activities.
When and where do photos take place?
Photos will be taken for your team at Ghesquiere Park, near the tennis courts, on a Saturday during the fall and spring season. No photos are taken during the winter sessions. Your head coach will communicate the exact date and time as that changes from season to season. Team photos are included in your registration fee however if you would like individual photos simply print and complete the Photo Order Form and bring it with you to the photo session.
What color jersey does the Home team wear?
